mike&jen // la jolla

In June 2008, mike asked me to take some photos of him to send to his grandmother. You might remember his slick breaking moves on the beach (which he did NOT send to his grandmother... we did take some "normal" portraits.)

One person who was also there was his then-girlfriend/now-fiancee, the beautiful Jennifer.
Just for fun, I got some shots of them that day but when a roommate of mine thought he had proposed when looking at my pictures (when he definitely hadn't) I thought that I should hold on to these photos for a little bit.

But now that they ARE getting married... so I can show the world how awesome they are. I'm so excited for them because I love them loooooooooots. It's gonna be a super sweet February.

I was also super lucky to be in the party planning crew for their engagement party. Stay tuned to see the Neverland Themed Decor tomorrow!

Things I Love Part VI: Having a GREAT seat at weddings!

I had the distinct privilage of being a guest at the February Lui/Woo wedding where my dear Jenny married her sweatheart, Tim in La Jolla.

It was a JOYOUS wedding because she is the first to marry of this club we (ok I) started freshmen year of college called "SCG" which I will NOW admit stands for Single Christian Girls. While it may sound like a dating service it was actually quite the opposite... it was a pact that a group of us girls from Mt. Hermon made that we were not going to date during our first year in college. In God's sovereignty, Jenny met Tim during her SECOND year of college. :) And they have been together since then.

I felt so blessed to be there, to celebrate with Jenny AND Tim's family as well - his older sister Tiff is another dear friend. Sadly the Lui's are now residing in Philly (soooo far away...not something I love), but I can't wait to see them again in April!

Not a photographer for this wedding...(but I did get to meet John Yao of SimplyTwo..he's awesome!)...but rather turned into an impromptu florist. I was rather proud of my handiwork. :)

The view from their reception at Admiral Baker's Clubhouse

A romantic waltz to Beauty and the Beast...I would say this is one of my favorite first dances of all time. Good job guys!

This is my favorite shot.

Toasts from both Jenny & Tim's sisters.

Sunset at Nobel

Sunset at Nobel, originally uploaded by Courtney Lynn.

Nobel Athletic Fields in November, after the women's Mission Bowl tournament. It took me about 5 minutes to get this shot right.

A Little Getaway.

I was dying for an afternoon like this today.

A mahogany table, open window with a gust of seabreeze...Just me and a couple good friends - ones that smile, talk, and drink coffee (like Kat) and friends that let me write between their covers as I spill my thoughts.

Shimmering

It's been blazing hot in SD lately...the kind of hot that makes the sidewalk shimmer. This is a different kind of shine but actually its one of my favorite photos from all of 2008 so far!

More on Maui when I get back but for now, I had to post this photo of J.J. One of my favorites of 2008, so far. :)

Watch me Move

We were at La Jolla shores to take a nice portrait to send to Grandma, but Hase got a little carried away.

Nothing taken for Granted

Torrey Pines

Today is Stephanie's birthday, but these pictures are actually from March. For one reason or another I didn't think that I would ever edit these photos from the last time we had one of our play dates. On a Friday afternoon I picked her up and said we were going to go on an adventure. Those days have been few and far between since then because of the busyness and lessons of life. Sadly, there are not many days like this left either, since she'll be moving from San Diego. Reflecting on God's grace to us in allowing us to have the time together that we did, was what led me to sit down at my computer and strive to create something that conveyed our friendship. An hour and a half later, I surveyed my photographs and was satisfied. I could see us.

Thank you Lord, for Stephanie, for our friendship, for the lessons, and the precious time we've had together. And thank you for hoping in the future.

Simple statement about our friendship.

This may be my favorite picture that I've ever taken of Stephanie.
It says so much about her...especially things that people may not know just by looking at her.

This is Steph, as most people see her. Happy, joyful and laughing.

We tried to not laugh as this couple walked past but she couldn't help but chuckle when I took a picture of them.

One of my favorite photos of both of us. Yes, both of us. Look closer.

Wury in Wonderland

Just beyond an ivy covered wall...

I found an unexpected corner of the world full of wonder (A cottage that was converted into an office building but still held all of its quaint charm.)

And there was a girl who fell right into the middle of it all.

I just felt like telling the story that unfolded in my crazy head as a bunch of us spent a morning in downtown La Jolla. The plan was just to shoot as much as we wanted to for an hour or so. Of course inspiration struck in the last 20 minutes I had....nevertheless I was SUPER excited as my mind finally honed in on something worth telling.

...this was the picture that actually started the story. Wury happened to walk by a wall covered in vines and I stopped her. All I could think was "Alice in Wonderland". I'm not sure if it was the scene where the Queen Hearts playing croquette with Alice that came to mind but when Wury stood in front this massive wall of green, she looked so little. And with all this greenery (my favorite color), it was wonderFUL. :)

Michelle & Kevin

Michelle & Kevin, originally uploaded by Courtney Lynn.

I headed out to La Jolla cove with another M & K couple... Michelle and Kevin. It was blistering cold that day, but this was one of the last shots of them that I got. We waited forever, but I did actually get what I was imagining in my mind - the water crashing behind them. The bird flying by was just a bonus!

Mabel and Kevin...a sneak peak

Mabel and Kevin, originally uploaded by Courtney Lynn.

I have on good authority that this sequence very well portrays their relationship. :-) This might have been Kevin's favorite part of taking photos - and I can see why!

McLau and KTse Part I //Mt, Soledad

In my humble opinion these two are a GREAT match.
I love hanging out with Mabel and Kevin....its so much fun! There's more to come.

Lillian's Small Group

After volunteering to help her small group "bond" I was pleasantly surprised at how excited Lillian and her small group were. We had a lot of fun at Renaissance on a Sunday afternoon. You'll have to check out more portraits from our photo session on my flickr page, and hey, if anyone else wants to have an impromptu photo shoot, I'm down!
